Background:The effects of sildenafil on premature ejaculation (PE) have been well described in literature, but little is known about the pharmacological effects of sildenafil on premature ejaculation (PE).
Method:This randomized, double-blind, controlled study was performed in adult men aged 18 to 65 years who were seeking treatment of premature ejaculation (PE) at the time of the evaluation. Patients with moderate or severe premature ejaculation were also offered sildenafil and/or placebo. Treatment with sildenafil and/or placebo was initiated 30 minutes before sexual activity, and continued for 1 hour. The primary endpoint was the proportion of patients with premature ejaculation who had a change from baseline in the proportion of patients who met the study criteria. The secondary endpoint was the time to change from baseline in the proportion of patients who had a change in the proportion of patients who had an average score of at least 4 on the Clinical Global Impression-Severity of Improvement (CGI-SINT) questionnaire at 1 month.
Results:Patients were more likely to have PE than healthy controls, and most patients were able to achieve satisfactory sexual intercourse and achieve orgasm at the time of follow-up. The median duration of sildenafil treatment for premature ejaculation was 7.5 (interquartile range, 4.9 to 17.9) minutes. After treatment, the average proportion of patients with PE who had a score of at least 4 in the CGI-SINT at 1 month was 4.5%.
Conclusion:Sildenafil significantly increased the proportion of patients with premature ejaculation who had a score of at least 4 in the CGI-SINT at 1 month. There was no significant difference between placebo and sildenafil.
Patients with severe premature ejaculation, age > 65 years with or without comorbidities such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, or prostate cancer, who can not take sildenafil or do not tolerate sildenafil, are advised to seek sildenafil and/or placebo for treatment of premature ejaculation. If they meet the study criteria, they should seek treatment for premature ejaculation.This is a retrospective study of patients with premature ejaculation treated with sildenafil and/or placebo for 1 year. The study was conducted at a tertiary care teaching hospital. The study was a prospective observational study in adult men aged 18 to 65 years with a diagnosis of PE.
